Johnsburg Happenings

VILLAGE OFFICES TO BE CLOSED FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 3RD

In addition to being closed on Monday, September 6th in recognition of the Labor Day, all Village offices will be closed on Friday, September 3, 2010.  This closing is in accordance with the institution of six non-paid furlough days approved by the Village Board in an effort to reduce costs in response to today's current economic climate.  The first furlough day was instituted on Friday, May 28th and a second was taken on Friday, July 2nd.  For the remainder of this year, Village offices will also be closed on Friday, September 3rd; Wednesday, November 24th; Thursday, December 23rd; and Thursday, December 30th to accommodate these furlough days.  Due to decreases in building/development related revenues and significant delays in State Income Tax payments being made to the Village, these furlough days are being used as a way to help reduce costs while minimizing the disruption of services to our residents.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate the understanding of the employees being affected by this difficult situation.

REFUSE & RECYCLING SURVEY

Please watch our site for a Refuse and Recycling Survey to be posted the week of September 6th.  The Village is very interested in what our residents have to say about the refuse and recycling service offered in the Village.

VILLAGE STICKERS PAST DUE

Johnsburg Village Stickers were due by July 30th.  The cost of stickers are now $20.00 for cars and trucks up to 4 tons gross weight and $10 for motorcycles.  There are no senior or disability discounts after the due date.  Stickers can be purchased at the Village Hall Monday thru Friday 8:00 am to 4:30 pm or by sending in the applications that were mailed out with the correct payment to the Johnsburg Village Hall, 1515 Channel Beach Ave., Johnsburg, IL  60051.  The Johnsburg Police Department will be issuing tickets for those who have not purchased them.  Please contact the Village Hall at 815-385-6023 to get vehicle sticker applications.

RECEIVE YOUR VILLAGE NEWSLETTER ELECTRONICALLY

With the impending postal rate increase and in an effort to reduce printing and mailing costs, the Johnsburg Village Voice newsletter will be delivered electronically instead of through standard mailing options.  The Village will send out paper copies of the newsletter only to those residents who are unable to receive it electronically by either email or downloading it from our website.  Please contact the Village Hall at 815-385-6023 to get your name on the mailing list, only if you are unable to receive it electronically.  If you would like to register your email address, please fill in the box located on the Newsletter page of this website or email us at villagehall@johnsburg.org.  Please include your name, address and email address to register.  If you already receive the newsletter by email, you do not have to register again.  The Johnsburg Village Voice is sent out quarterly.  There will be a limited number of paper copies available at various locations throughout town and at the Village Hall and Police Department.

JOHNSBURG POLICE ENFORCEMENT CRACKDOWN

The Johnsburg Police Department announced its late-night enforcement plans for Labor Day, focusing on the deadliest time of day for motor vehicle fatalities.  The intensified enforcement effort will be directed toward impaired drivers, safety belt violators and speeding violations.  According to data from the Illinois Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the midnight to 3:00 a.m. timeframe is the deadliest time on Illinois roads.  Not coincidentally, the data also shows this time of day has the highest percentage of alcohol involvement and the lowest occupant restraint use.  The Johnsburg Police recommends designating a sober driver and not letting friends and family drive impaired.  Other important tips include calling a taxi or call a sober friend if you are impaired, promptly report impaired drivers you see on the roadways to law enforcement and wear your safety belt and make sure all passengers are safely buckled up.  The law enforcement crackdown is funded by federal traffic safety funds through IDOT's Division of Traffic Safety.  You Drink and Drive, You Lose!  For more information visit www.drivesoberillinois.org.
